"I just came back from a visit to Ghar Pe and I thought I’d write to you about the experience.

Here are a few things that I walked away with:

I was stunned to find close to 100-150 children waiting for their turn to go up to the exhibit. The power of the exhibit was the fact that it was in the heart of the community. It was a space which was its natural home versus an art gallery which would have given it more of a controlled environment. For someone who may not have been in a community before, just the walk in would have been a revelation. I loved the installations for how beautiful and simply they were and how they had been conceived. What really took it to another level was the story behind each. I loved how they were presented / explained – not too much detail but just enough to let you think about it. Having it in multiple languages also worked well. I loved how you took an issue that was real, that may or may not be talked about and gave it a voice of its own.

"SNEHA has done good work within limited resources.

The partnership between SNEHA and BMC needs to be strengthened and he urged social activists who are committed to social causes to build a network of partnerships between governments and NGOs to address critical social issues.

"The outstanding work done by SNEHA and its collaborators and partners has succeeded in offering replicable and program-relevant evidence in maternal and newborn healthcare in low resource urban communities. They have succeeded in developing innovative solutions to improve health of women and children. Their painstaking efforts have demonstrated how a bottom-up approach yields a locally effective model of care that imbibes and adapts the best known global experiences and practices. SNEHA has shown how communities, researchers, a civic body and the corporate sector can together make a difference on the ground. The tools developed in the course of this work have utility, relevance and appeal well beyond the great city of Mumbai. The plethora of high quality scientific publications emanating from this endeavour is a testimony to the world class rigor of research methods and principles practiced by the team. I am proud to have been a friend and a cheerleader of the Team SNEHA on its journey of truth, service and hope.
