Centre for Vulnerable Women and Children (CVWC)

Supported By : Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, Volkart Foundation, Point of View & many individual donors

Partner :Ammada Trust, Legal Aid Cell

Date of Inception :November 2000

Status :Ongoing

Target Group : Women, Children and Community Groups

Project Area : Population of 650,000 served by 4 health posts of Dharavi – Urban Health Centre, Kumbharwada and Shastri Nagar

Goal : To end violence against women and children and help build healthy, functional families and communities by raising consciousness on recognizing women’s rights and gender inequalities in the society.

Objectives :

  1. To provide psychotherapeutic and social intervention to women and children experiencing violence for immediate, interim, and long-term needs.
  2. Prevention of Violence Against Women (VAW) by raising awareness through community outreach activities.
  3. Long-term intervention for the empowerment of women.

Methodology :

  • Use of Microplanning for community mobilization and formation of Slum Action Committees (SACs)
  • Awareness campaigns, street plays, films, audio-visual aids, etc.
  • Counseling and reconciliation with family/husband and medical/institutional rehabilitation services.

Although development strategies must grow and be directed towards encouraging community participation to ensure self sustenance, CVWC believes that there must be continuous service provision and uses an integrated approach of service and social action.
