The "Mission Dharavi Project" report provides a comprehensive overview of the challenges faced by the Dharavi community during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the response efforts by the Society for Nutrition, Education and Health Action (SNEHA). The report highlights the unique vulnerabilities of urban informal settlements like Dharavi, which were severely impacted by the pandemic due to factors such as overcrowding, limited sanitation facilities, and economic instability.

The project aimed to address these challenges through a variety of interventions, including raising awareness about COVID-19, providing essential supplies like food and hygiene products, and ensuring the continuity of health services. One of the key strategies was the deployment of community volunteers, referred to as "COVID Yoddhas," who played a crucial role in disseminating information, supporting health services, and helping with essential supplies. These volunteers were instrumental in bridging the gap between the community and public health systems, especially during the stringent lockdown periods when access to external support was limited.

The community's response to COVID-19 evolved over time, shifting from initial fear and panic to a more relaxed attitude as the pandemic progressed. While there was a high level of awareness about the virus, misconceptions and stigmatization persisted, leading to challenges in the adoption of preventive measures. The report also underscores the socio-economic impact of the pandemic, particularly the loss of livelihoods, which further exacerbated the hardships faced by the Dharavi community. Overall, the findings emphasize the need for sustained support and long-term strategies to enhance the resilience of vulnerable communities in the face of such crises.
